Peabody, Massachusetts. TÜV SÜD America Inc., and TÜV SÜDAG, Munich, Germany, leading globally recognized testing and certification organizations are pleased to announce expanded battery abuse testing capabilities to include all the requirements of SAE J2464, SAE J2929, and SAND 2005-3123, as well as most abuse tests required for ISO, IEC, UN, UL, and UNECE.
The product range that can be accommodated in our test labs in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Newmarket, Ontario, and Garching, Germany includes: individual cells, modules, and battery packs. The considerable hazards present in some of these tests are managed with a TÜV SÜD risk assessment, prior to conducting the tests in specially designed blast-tolerant chambers and purpose-built facilities. TÜV SÜD has spent considerable time and resources to develop detailed methods for tests that had a wide interpretation latitude as defined by the standards bodies. The cell penetration test is one example of this effort. A white paper on this topic is available from TÜV SÜD.
"TÜV SÜD is constantly expanding our capacity and capabilities for battery testing globally; not only through capital investments and facilities, but in research, investigation, and knowledge within the industry," stated Darryl Fleger, General Manager of TÜV SÜD Battery Testing Operations in North America. "With these additions in North America, we are able to further support our clients with the testing necessary to help bring more advanced and safer batteries to market sooner," concluded Mr. Fleger.
Both the 21,000-sq.-ft.Newmarket facility and recently renovated 17,000-sq.-ft.Auburn Hills facility, are fully ISO/IEC 17025 A2LA-accredited to provide abuse, durability, performance, and life cycle testing of battery cells, modules, and packs.
