August 14, 2015, Munich - “Be ahead. Get connected.” is the title of TÜV SÜD’s presence at the 2015 International Motor Show (IAA), held in Frankfurt am Main from 17 to 27 September. At Stand D04 in Hall 8, the international service provider will focus on modular service packages for OEMs, suppliers, car dealerships and fleet operators, but will also address the topics of automated driving, end-of-lease assessment, damage management, electric vehicles, and vehicle development services including buzz, squeak and rattle testing.
Two of the foremost inventions of the last century – the car and the Internet – are ‘marrying’. Digitisation and interconnection are opening up new horizons for mobility in the form of automated driving. Cars are now in the fast lane, and advancing faster than almost ever before. TÜV SÜD supports OEMs and suppliers by providing independent services worldwide – from development to homologation and additional services including buzz, squeak and rattle testing (BSR) and dynamic component testing (DYCOT). Wherever automatically driven test vehicles require road approval, TÜV SÜD’s specialists are on the spot, assisting manufacturers and developers.
But technological progress is not the only aspect that is proceeding apace; business is booming too. Acquisitions continue to dominate the car dealership sector, and as companies grow and tasks become more complex, the need to establish and exploit synergies increases in step. This applies to the new car business as much as to used car trading. Given the rising complexity of the industry’s structures, one-stop services are in demand in many areas. Patrick Fruth, CEO of TÜV SÜD Auto Service GmbH, comments, “At the IAA, we are positioning our company as an independent partner for industry and presenting a complete modular package of services tailored to the new requirements of the sector.” Patrick Fruth interprets the title of ‘be ahead. get connected.’ to mean that “Major car dealers need a reliable, third-party partner that provides support through structural changes and helps to manage processes.”
Digitisation has also moved into vehicle fleets. As a leading independent provider of fleet services throughout Europe, TÜV SÜD’s subsidiary Fleet Logistics International (FLI) recently acquired Belgian companies TCOPlus and FleetVision. The internationally operating fleet management software supplier, TCOPlus, will enable TÜV SÜD to further expand its services in this area; TCOPlus’s solutions enable fleet managers to simulate taxation and other impacts online and make valid forecasts for their financial operations. “TCO enables us to provide even more comprehensive support for our customers in exploiting potential savings and identifying cost effects”, explains Fruth. As an additional bonus, international fleet operators can access FLI’s global network extending throughout more than 38 countries. “Our local colleagues are familiar with the special features and legal conditions of individual markets. We can thus provide our customers with one-stop services”, says Fruth.
A central issue for ensuring rapid processes, and thus lower costs, in car sales is the standardisation of vehicle management processes. Here, TÜV SÜD supplies a range of services covering the entire vehicle cycle, from acquisition to sale and including appraisal, repair and conditioning, data management, pricing and presentation. And on the subject of digital aspects, TÜV SÜD’s National Used Car Management System (NUMoS) allows car dealers to monitor all key data at all times, and thus take action including reduction of lot times. Other topics addressed by the international service provider include deregistration and registration and, naturally, periodic technical inspections. The TÜV SÜD Used Car Certificate creates a basis of trust with customers and thus helps to ensure faster sales and shorter lot times.
Electromobility – the breakthrough
In line with the plans of the German government and the National Electric Mobility Platform, the 2015 IAA will herald the market launch of electromobility, with the aim of boosting the numbers of electric vehicles on the road by 2020. Against this background, TÜV SÜD is stepping up its efforts to support manufacturers and suppliers in developing safe vehicles and battery systems. TÜV SÜD is the only certification service provider to operate a global network of seven testing laboratories for large-scale vehicle batteries.
TÜV SÜD is also internationally engaged in the field of charging system harmonisation. Together with numerous vehicle manufacturers and suppliers, the company is a founder member of CharIN, an industry initiative that promotes Combined Charging System (CCS), a system designed for use in Europe and the US that can charge vehicles using both slower alternating current and fast – or, in the future, ultra-fast – direct current. TÜV SÜD’s activities in this respect include ensuring that vehicle and charging station “understand” each other smoothly and meet all interoperability requirements. A key step for safe, problem-free charging of electric vehicles.
Services for OEMs and car dealerships, international fleet management, automated driving, electromobility: TÜV SÜD’s presence at the 2015 IAA will showcase the company’s focused expertise and full range of services related to cars and mobility. “By addressing a broadly based range of topics at the IAA, we will underline our foremost position as industry partner at one of the world’s largest motor shows”, says Fruth. The experts at Stand D04 in Hall 8 will also be on hand to answer all questions concerning TÜV SÜD’s traditional services, including periodic technical inspections and emissions testing, driving tests, damage appraisal and valuation.
In addition, the IAA will include the following TÜV SÜD events (Details of times and locations will be released later):
